Gay Marriage: How Should the Supreme Court Decide?

An anti-gay marriage case goes before the highest court in the land this week, and we’d like to get your take on how justices should decide.

Can a state ban gay marriage? That’s the question going before the United States Supreme Court this week as opponents of California’s Proposition 8, which effectively bans gay marriage, take their arguments to the highest court in the land. That proposition was approved by California voters in 2008, which was the same year Floridian’s passed a state constitutional amendment that prohibits gay marriage here. The premise of the challenge is that the United States Constitution’s Equal Protection clause found in the 14th Amendment effectively prohibits states like California (and Florida) from defining marriage as solely a union between man and woman. If the case makes it through a technical hurdle, justices are expected to hear arguments this…

Legalized Pot: Should the Feds Shut it Down?

Two states have decriminalized marijuana possession and use. The federal government is now eyeing ways to reverse what voters approved. We want to hear your thoughts on the issue Tampa Bay!

Voters in Washington and Colorado went to the polls in November and decided it was OK with them if people possessed up to 1 ounce of marijuana for personal use. Marijuana clinics fight the federal government, daily, trying to shut them down. I dont smoke, but if I needed it for medicinal purposes, I would want it to be legal! Its natural. There are so many legal drugs that kill that are taken illegally. Alcohol …   more ›

Florida Secession Movement: Your Thoughts?

An online petition has been filed with the White House requesting that Florida be allowed to “withdraw from the United States of America.” Do you think it’s time to go it alone?

A growing group of Floridians think the state should break away from the United States and run its own affairs. Doubt it? There’s an official petition filed with the federal government via the White House’s website. The petition had 18,728 signatures as of 8:45 a.m. Nov. 13. It has a goal of 25,000 signatures and was only created on Nov. 10. There’s even some momentum behind the idea it would seem. When Sarasota Patch ran an article on the petition, it was reported there were only 1,343 signatures. That number has since climbed in leaps and bounds, nearing the goal of 25,000. Here’s what the petition asks: We the people of the great state of Florida, do see that in today's world the Federal Government has not led our citizens justly and …
