PHOTOS: Local Restaurant Gets Makeover From Food Network Show

The popular reality show "Restaurant Impossible" filmed at Smitty's Restaurant in Clearwater on Wednesday. Ever wonder what happens behind the scenes? During a previous visit, Celebrity chef Robert Irvine explained what the cameras don't show.

The parking lot outside Smitty's Restaurant in Clearwater saw a flurry of activity Wednesday morning, as the popular Food Network reality show "Restaurant Impossible: filmed a segment under a tight deadline. Large white tents were set up in Smitty's parking lot. Construction crews scrambled to give a new look to furniture from the restaurant. In another area of the parking lot, a production crew was interviewing two people who may have been restaurant workers, managers or perhaps even the owners. Celebrity chef Robert Irvine, who is the star of the show, walked quickly outside of the restaurant while talking on a cell phone. Celebrity chef Robert Irvine is at Smitty's Restaurant in Clearwater this week for a taping of his Food Network show, "Restaurant Impossible."

Are you a fan of the reality show "Restaurant Impossible?" A local restaurant is getting a makeover from celebrity chef Robert Irvine, star of the Food Network show. Restaurant Impossible crews were working inside two large white tents set up in the parking lot of Smitty's restaurant, 4890 122nd Ave. N., in Clearwater on Monday afternoon. In each segment of "Restaurant Impossible," Irvine tries to help troubled restaurants by revamping the menu, identifying and fixing staff and management problems, and giving the restaurant a makeover using a $10,000 budget. Crews were to be filming at Smitty's Tuesday and Wednesday, according to the Tampa Bay Times. No one answered the phone at Smitty's Monday afternoon. A sign on the door read, "We are …
