Largo leaders approved adding more than 4,520 square feet of land at the Ulmerton Crossings site where the city's first Wawa is planned recently. The Wawa at 8910 Ulmerton Rd. is part of a larger 11-acre retail project. Plans for the shopping center include a proposed Walmart Neighborhood Market and possibly two more retail buildings. City leaders added about 4,520 square feet, considered easement, as part of plans for the city’s first Wawa convenience store, coming soon to Ulmerton Road.
Two slivers of land. One just more than 1,720 square feet. The other a little more than 2,800 square feet. But those thin, grassy swaths soon will be patched to a 2.46-acre site that will become home to Largo's first Wawa. Recently, city leaders unanimously approved a plan to vacate easements 10 feet wide and 172 feet long along the west and a 10-foot-by-280-foot section to the south at the Ulmerton Crossings site, where a 5,537-square-foot Wawa soon will be built. The new 7-Eleven store is now open at 10 North Missouri Ave.
The new 7-Eleven opened Jan. 4. The location is open 24 hours daily. The new convenience store and gas station is located at the busy corner of East Bay Drive and North Missouri Avenue. The 7-Eleven is in the former location of Metro Gas, which was previously a Citgo station. The new store has 7-Eleven's usual line of popular drinks like Big Gulps and Slurpees, plus sandwiches, salads, hot foods and grill products. The 7-Eleven is not the only new gas station in town. The convenience store and gas station is set to open Dec. 30, according to a company spokeswoman.
Thorntons, a new gas station and convenience store, will open Dec. 30 in Largo, according to company spokeswoman Erin Jones. Construction crews continue to work on the store at the northeast corner of the intersection of Ulmerton and Starkey roads. The Largo Thorntons is part of the planned expansion of the chain into the Tampa Bay market. Thorntons has 166 locations in Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio and Tennessee. Thorntons is known for its wide selection of fountain drinks where customers can add a choice of flavor shots and choose different types of ice. Plans for the proposed Wawa at the corner of Ulmerton and Starkey roads continue to move forward. The popular convenience store from the Northeast is known for its built-to-order hoagies, fresh-brewed coffee, breakfast sandwiches and fresh produce. Largo approved the development order for the proposed 5,537-square-foot gas and convenience store Nov. 9. The pre-construction meeting for the Wawa at Ulmerton Crossing is planned for this week. The 11-acre commercial retail center in Largo will have a Walmart Neighborhood Market, Wawa, and possibly two more stores, according to a Realtor's website.
A proposed Wawa is planned for an 11-acre parcel at the southwest corner of Ulmerton and Starkey roads in Largo. The popular convenience store from the Northeast will be part of a proposed retail center, according to Largo's community development website. A Realtor's sign on the parcel shows a grocery store and possibly two more stores will make up the proposed retail center. The grocer will be a Walmart Neighborhood Market, according to an information sheet on the Belleair Development Group's website. Wawa is coming to Largo, and so is Buffalo Wild Wings. Now we're curious: Are there other businesses or chains you'd like to see open up here? Are you a Wawa fan? Let us know in the comments. Wawa is coming to the Largo area. Have you seen the Wawa sign on U.S. 19 in Pinellas Park near 62nd Avenue? That new Wawa is expected to open in the first quarter of 2013, according to the Tampa Bay Business Journal. Another Pinellas Park Wawa is planned for Gandy Boulevard. In Largo, Wawa plans an Ulmerton Road location. That project on 11 acres is in the planning stages, according the city's community development department Web site. The popular Philadelphia-based gas and convenience store opened several Orlando-area locations recently and will be coming next year to the Tampa Bay area, according to the Wawa website.
