A full-service restaurant featuring more than 11 specialty pizza pies and several varieties of chicken wings is becoming a tradition with shoppers and movie theater goers at The Largo Mall.
What do you recommend at Beach Pizza? Tell us in the comments section below! In almost a quarter century, Shaun Guerin, owner of three Beach Pizza shops, has found the recipe for success in a highly competitive business. A Seminole High graduate whose family moved to the Sunshine State when he was 10, Guerin has been in the restaurant business all his life. He recalls his first job was working as a bus boy for the Red Cavalier Restaurant when he was just 14. Working his way up as a cook, at 18 he became one of the youngest kitchen managers at the Careless Navigator. Then, in 1989, he opened his first Beach Pizza on Gulf Boulevard in Redington Shores, with what was then a unique notion to feature wings along with pizza. “Being born in …

Anthony's Deli Warehouse on Clearwater-Largo Road sells bread, meat, cheese, olives and much more.
Walking into Anthony's Deli Warehouse is like stepping back in time 30 years, and that's the way owners Joey Leo and Paul Mendel like it. The Clearwater-Largo Road business sells bread, meat, cheese, olives and much more. "We are a small old-time business. We make our own mozzarella fresh. We grind our sausage fresh. Everything is old time except there's no sawdust on the floor," Mendel said. "Everything is sliced and made to order ... and wrapped in butcher paper." Jars of olives with ladles line one wall, and a counter is filled with lasagna, fresh mozzarella, pasta salad, clam shells and other home-style-prepared foods. Pastry, bread, noodles and other staples fill shelves. Sandwiches can be made to order. The deli meats, which are …

Are chicken wings part of your Super Bowl plan?
Chicken wings are a popular pick for Super Bowl Sunday as football fans watch the San Francisco 49ers and Baltimore Ravens compete for the Lombardi Trophy in New Orleans on Feb. 3. But will there be a chicken wing shortage for this Super Bowl? Americans eat 1.23 billion chicken wings over Super Bowl weekend, but this year prices have gone up, and fewer chicken wings are available "due in large part to record high corn and feed prices" last summer, according to the National Chicken Council website. The average cost for a pound frozen chicken wings at the grocery store last week was $2.52, compared to $1.97 per pound during the same time frame last year, according to the Huffington Post. Restaurants plan ahead of time and buy extra wings …

The longtime sub shop offers seven different types of steak subs.
Since 1987, Largo Subs, the family-owned sandwich shop near the corner of Missouri Avenue North and East Bay, has served an array of subs, gyros, wings, salads, burgers and more. A new line of dog treats is keeping a Largo company busy making treats.
When Josh the dalmatian kept getting sick from eating store-bought dog treats, his family made him all-natural dog snacks. The effort to help Josh led to a family business that has grown to a full-time job now for Josh's owner, Craig Morse, and a few part-time employees, Morse said. Josh's All Natural Firehouse Dog Treats, which started in 1994, are hand-made and slow-baked in Largo. Although Josh died in 2000, the treats inspired by his need for treats he could safely eat are still produced in five flavors: beef, chicken, vegetable, peanut butter and lamb and rice. New at the Largo-based business are the all-natural chicken jerky bites. Morse was approached to create them when issues with contaminated jerky treats first came up a few …

A Largo deli is known for its clean kitchen, according to a letter from the governor.
Known for its pastrami sandwiches, Largo's Deli Diva is one of just 62 restaurants in Florida to earn perfect scores in its state restaurant inspections for 2012. The downtown Largo deli is the only one in Pinellas County to receive no safety or sanitation violations for 2012 from state restaurant inspectors, according to ABC Action News. "When we were told we were also the only restaurant in all of Pinellas County to receive this distinction, we realized that the long hours and hard work are very much worth the effort," wrote Chef Anne Money Buck in an email. Buck also posted the news in an announcement on Largo Patch. Gov. Rick Scott sent the deli a congratulatory letter in December for "having no safety or sanitation violations within …
