UPDATE: Man Opens Fire in Largo Office, Shoots Self, Police Say

The suspect entered the lobby of an office complex on Lightwave Drive, began shooting at the lobby doors and windows, then shot himself in the abdomen, Largo Police said.

Update, 1:10 p.m.: Police have identified the man who they say fired several rounds at the windows and doors of a Largo office building lobby Wednesday morning, then shot himself in the abdomen in an apparent suicide attempt. According to Largo Police, Fred Michael Sumner, 52, entered the lobby of the BayView Pavillion Office Business Complex, 1550 Lighwave Dr., just before 9:30 a.m., pulled a semi-automatic handgun from his waistband and begin firing at the windows and doors. "He did not aim or threaten anyone in the lobby area," Largo Police Lt. Mike Loux said in a media release. "After firing several rounds at the windows and doors, he fired a single shot into his own abdomen area." Sumner was flown by helicopter to an area hospital, …

Largo Woman Shot in Neck; Alleged Shooter Apprehended

Authorities say a 19-year-old Largo man shot the woman during an attempted robbery at 135th Avenue North and was caught by deputies as he tried to flee.

A 19-year-old Largo man is in custody after deputies say he shot a woman in the neck while trying to rob her Friday night. A Pinellas County Sheriff's deputy patrolling the Coral Way neighborhood shortly after 7 p.m. Friday "heard what sounded like a gunshot, then a woman's scream for help," according to a media release from the sheriff's office. Deputies responded to a residence in the 3700 block of 135th Avenue North, where they discovered Brieonne Danielle Roiland, 30, screaming that she had been shot, officials said. The suspect, Trevon Lamar Griffin, was later caught running through a field a short distance away from the crime scene, according to the sheriff's office. Shooting Suspect Faces Attempted Murder Charge

A Largo man was charged with attempted murder after a shooting at the Handy Corner. The suspect also apparently shot himself in the hand.

A Largo man faces a charge of attempted murder after a shooting Friday morning at the Handy Corner, authorities report. Two men reportedly got into an argument Friday morning inside the Handy Corner Store on 119th St. North in Largo. Deonte J. Williams, 18, of Largo and the victim left the store and the fight apparently escalated, "at which point a shot was fired and Williams left the scene," deputies report. The 22-year-old victim was shot in the shoulder area and transported to Bayfront Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries, according to a news release. Largo Shooting Injures Two, Authorities Say

The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office is investigating a shooting in unincorporated Largo.

Two men were injured in a shooting at Handy Corner this morning, according to a news release. The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office Homicide Unit is investigating the shooting, which occurred in the 2300 119th St. North in Largo, according to a news release. Deputies responded to the call at about 10:04 a.m. Two men were reported injured in the shooting. The injured were transported to the hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries, according to a news release. The investigation is in its early stages. Stay with Patch for updates. Man, 19, Killed in Drive-By Shooting at Largo Party, Detectives Say

Gregory Antonio Williams II was shot and killed Friday night during a party at a residence on 134th Place North, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office.

Detectives are investigating a drive-by shooting that left a 19-year-old man dead Friday night in Largo. According to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office, the shooting occurred around 11:13 p.m. in the 12000 block of 134th Place North, where a party was being held. "Numerous gunshots were heard in front of the residence," sheriff's office spokesperson Cecilia Barreda said in a media release. Gregory Antonio Williams II was reportedly shot. He was taken to Largo Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead a short time later. Detectives say there may have been three vehicles involved in the shooting. Women Identified in Largo Hotel Shooting Incident

The Largo Police Department released the names of the women involved in a Nov. 12 shooting incident at a hotel on Ulmerton Road.

Largo Police continue to investigate a hotel shooting in which one woman was killed and another was critically wounded Nov. 12. Police have identified the woman who was found dead at the Suburban Extended Stay Hotel as Lindsey Alexandria Castaneda, 27, of St Petersburg. Bethany June Dunlop, 26, of Largo, was also found shot at the hotel and remains in critical condition at a local hospital, police report. Officers were called to the Ulmerton Road hotel shortly after 1:30 p.m. Monday after employees reportedly found Castaneda dead in her room and Dunlop in critical need of medical attention, Lt. Largo Police are investigating a hotel shooting in which one woman was killed and another was critically wounded in a possible homicide and attempted suicide. Officers were called to the Suburban Extended Stay Hotel, 6550 Ulmerton Rd., shortly after 1:30 p.m. Monday after employees reportedly found one woman dead in her room and another shot and in critical need of medical attention, Lt. Mike Loux said in a media release. She was airlifted to Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg. The employees had gone to check the room because the female couple that had been staying there was due to check out Monday, authorities said. Man Sought in Largo Shooting Incident Surrenders, Authorities Say

A man who allegedly shot a neighbor in the hand Saturday turned himself into authorities on Sunday, according to a news release.

Saturday evening Tommy David Preston, 47, allegedly threatened his girlfriend with a loaded gun and alledgedly shot a neighbor in the hand, according to a news release. The shooting followed a dispute over the attention the neighbor was reportedly giving Preston's girlfriend, according to a news release. Pinellas County Sheriff's deputies say Preston contacted his girlfriend Sunday morning and told her he wanted to turn himself in to deputies.  With information provided by Preston's girlfriend, Deputy Terry Trautman contacted Preston, and further encouraged him to surrender. The two met at a location in the parking lot of the Criminal Justice complex off of 49th Street. Preston was taken into custody at around noon Sunday without further …

Man Shot in Hand Following Dispute Over a Woman, Authorities Say

Saturday evening a Largo resident was reportedly shot in the hand by a neighbor and the suspect fled, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office.

A man was shot reportedly in the hand during a dispute between Clay Avenue neighbors around 6 p.m. on Oct. 13, according to a news release. According to deputies, Tommy "Buzz" Preston, 47, allegedly threatened his girlfriend, Alicia Hornak, with a loaded gun and allegedly shot Johnny J. Holdcroft in the left hand following a dispute over the attention Holdcroft was reportedly giving Hornak. Preston fled the scene after the shooting, possibly on a motorcycle, according to authorities. Rescue personnel transported Holdcroft in an ambulance to a local hospital with non life-threatening injuries, according to a news release. The investigation continues.
