The spacious, new Gunslingers accommodates up to 1,200 people across its five business areas. The former Gunslingers on East Bay was only a bar but the new location offers a patio for happy hour and lunch, a full-service restaurant, catering and banquets, a nightclub and a planned concierge service called "Gunslinger Nation," according to a spokesman for Gunslingers. The old Tucson's building on Icot Boulevard was "heavily" renovated for one year with Gunslingers opening at its new location in November. The club side of the business plans to host a grand opening Jan. 26. From their little storefront on West Bay Drive in Largo, Michael Brandt and Anthony Jack feature savory recipes from the Louisiana Gulf Coast at their traditional Po' boy eatery.

The flavor of New Orleans and the Louisiana Gulf Coast is being served up at a traditional Po’ boy eatery that is becoming a culinary destination, on West Bay Drive in Largo, for lovers of Cajun-style cuisine from all over the Tampa Bay area. “While we attract many locals, including the Largo Police who have been very loyal to us and eat here several times a week, our fame has grown to all over the Tampa area thanks to the internet and word-of-mouth,” said Michael Brandt, who opened Gulf Coast Po’ Boys three years ago, with partner Anthony Jack in a little storefront at 312 West Bay Drive between Missouri Avenue and Clearwater-Largo Road. Mike Baker, who recently stopped into the eatery for his favorite grilled shrimp Po’ boy on a hoagie …

Munchie's Remains Closed

The grill and bar does not yet have its certificate of occupancy, according to the City of Largo.

Munchie's Grill & Bar is still closed.  The Adrian Avenue neighborhood bar and grill opened under new management in July but closed apparently for repairs in September.  Munchie's continues to work to get the certificate of occupancy so they can open, according to City of Largo spokesman Brandon Graham. Since the restaurant will be serving food, approval is needed from the city's engineering/environmental, building and fire departments, Graham wrote in an email.  "Currently, Fire Rescue has rejected the application due to National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards not being met by the applicant. The main issue is a door that is part of a fire wall separating two different businesses. That door needs to be removed and the …

Tia's Serves Up Latin Flavors

Tia's Authentic Latin Food is at 7161 Ulmerton Road in Largo. The establishment prides itself on having a home-style taste.

Hungry for roast pork, crisp Cuban bread, breakfast burritos, plantains, yellow rice? Head to a new Ulmerton Road eatery and find out what “Tia” is cooking. The name of Largo’s new Latin restaurant, Tia's Authentic Latin Food, comes from Susan Gonzalez's nieces and nephews asking “Tia, what do you have cooking?”  Gonzalez, 61, just loves to cook and entertain.  “I always wanted a restaurant. It has been my dream. Because of cooking at home so much, people were always asking me, ‘Why don’t you open a restaurant?’” Gonzalez said. “I like cooking for a lot of people and watching them say this is delicious.” Born in Puerto Rico, Gonzalez learned to cook from her mother and grandmother. At age 10 she moved to New Jersey and then to Spring Hill …

Cosmo's Cafe Brings Down to Earth Dishes to Largo

Looking for delicious home-cooked dishes at reasonable prices? Check out this new restaurant.

For four years, Carlos Davila helped Robbie Smith run a restaurant. Davila's hard work was returned with help from Smith to start his own restaurant. Cosmo's Cafe opened in Largo in September, Davila said. "(Robbie Smith) was very thankful I helped out," Davila said. "I just want to let people know I'm one of the thousands of people who wants to be successful. I think I am going the right way, with the right people around me." Davila enjoys the people side of the restaurant business. Davila owns the new cafe with Smith, Davila said. "I like talking with people and socializing with my customers. I am very family-oriented," Davila said. Davila is popular with his customers, who chime in about the great food and customer service, suggesting …

Hungry for Chicken Wings?

Niagara Tap may have some of the best wings in Tampa Bay.

When I drove up to Niagara Tap for a review, I was looking forward to some great wings. Patch readers had raved for months about the special rubs and sauces for chicken wings at Niagara Tap. I decided to order ten honey barbeque chicken wings.  The wait for the food was only about ten to fifteen minutes and once the order came I decided to enjoy my food outside.  The moment of truth came when I opened the box filled with wings. The wings looked great and full of meat and sauce. I took my first bite and was in heaven. My love affair with honey barbeque wings started years ago when I tried some amazing sweet and tangy wings at KFC. Since then I have tried honey barbeque wings at all the famous places around the Tampa Bay area, but never …

Authentic Italian Eatery Opens on Ulmerton Road in Largo

Uncle Frank’s Italian Restaurant & NY Style Pizza serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, with the emphasis on fresh, homemade food.

Uncle Frank’s, an authentic Italian eatery owned by a trio of experienced restaurateurs, recently opened in the Rosetree Plaza on Ulmerton Road in Largo.  The namesake of the business, Frank Ceniviva, is a native Italian and former New Yorker who has been cooking ever since his mom taught him when he was a young boy.  But after moving to Florida in 2003, Ceniviva worked at a couple area establishments before finally opening his own place where he can show off his considerable culinary talents.  “I owned a restaurant in Cooperstown, New York for nine years ... so I was always looking for my own place down here,” the gregarious Ceniviva explains.  “I wanted to do things my way.”  His way includes making meals from scratch, using some old …

Dropped in this morning for breakfast and the service was great, but then we were the only one's there so how could it not be. The wife had the French Toast, which she said was very good. I had eggs and potatoes which were also good. kinda hard to screw up eggs and potatoes, but I have been to a few places that have. We both liked the coffee. Changes on Tap for Finley’s Irish Pub & Eatery

A new owner is planning to expand the Largo bar and menu while keeping the previous owner on board.

When a new owner takes over a business, changes are inevitable. But sometimes, change can be good.  That appears to be the case at Finley’s Irish Pub & Eatery, the popular Belcher Road bar known for its blues jam and annual St. Patty’s Day party. A few weeks ago, previous owner John Hendrick sold the establishment to Mark Ternes, and by all accounts, the transition has been a positive experience for everyone involved.  “John built a very nice business here,” Ternes says. “It’s unfortunate he had to break it up, but now he’s worry free. And he’s going to be a big asset to me.”  Hendrick, who had to sell due to a difference with his previous partner, hit it off with Ternes and will remain at Finley’s as a bartender, providing a familiar face…

Sardo's Pizza Offers Delicious, Brooklyn-Style Pizza at Affordable Prices

Restaurant review: Super Sardo's Pizza & Pasta is one stop you will want to make in Largo.

Driving down Ulmerton Road and through much of Largo, it's easy to miss great businesses that have been put behind traffic cones and road blocks. Super Sardo's Pizza & Pasta is one of those that you should not miss. From a glance, the restaurant doesn't seem too impressive. When you enter, it certainly has the neighborhood ambiance, with photos hanging on the walls and a game center for the kids in the back. The menu seems traditional, offering pizza by the slice or by the pie. A slice will range from around $2 to $5, while a pie can cost up to around $25. I decided to go traditional and order a slice of pepperoni pizza, while my companion went with a traditional cheese slice. The soda fountain had a good mix of seltzer and soda, and I …
