First-Time Largo Voter Loved the Independence of Voting

Aliena Cargill, 18, ended up voting by mail because it was easier but was still out at the polls Tuesday to support a local candidate.

First-time voter Aliena Cargill, of Largo, did not know what to expect with the voting process. She ended up voting by mail because it was easier. But she still came to the polls at the Old Largo Feed Store in Largo Central Park on Tuesday to support a local candidate. "I liked voting because I could do it myself and be independent," Cargill said. The 18-year-old took the presidential campaign process seriously, watching all of the debates. "I definitely watched everything the presidential candidates had to say during the debates. What they planned to do and they could change," Cargill said. Health care coverage was the big issue for the recent Palm Harbor University High School Graduate, she said. Related Coverage:

Election is a Civics Lesson for Largo Candidate's Daughter

Seventh-grader Grace Robinson was helping her dad, Largo City Commission candidate James Robinson, by holding campaign signs outside one of the precincts Tuesday.

For several months now, Grace Robinson has helped distribute campaign literature for her dad, James Robinson, in his bid for Largo City Commission Seat 4 against fellow candidate Robert Hunsicker. On Election Day, she held one of her dad's campaign signs outside of Precinct 322 near the Florida Botanical Gardens. "It is so crazy seeing my dad's signs all over the place," Grace Robinson said. While Grace helped at home with the campaign, the seventh-grader at Morgan Fitzgerald Middle School has civics as a a part of her school work, which included mock debates, she said. Grace said the campaign experience has been "pretty cool, and there's lots of work behind the scenes," she said. On Monday, Hunsicker said, he planned to stop at all of …

Morning Rains Do Not Keep Largo Voters, Campaign Workers Away

Largo goes to the polls on Election Day 2012.

Want a bigger umbrella? A cup of coffee?  Those are some of the offers campaign worker Diane Fellows, of Largo, heard as she sat under an umbrella at the edge of a walkway at Christ the King Lutheran Church on Oakhurst with campaign signs around her. The church was the polling place for precincts 312 and 321 on Nov. 6. Being visible outside the polling place is the last "hurrah" before people vote, said Fellows, who campaigned for President Barack Obama. "I've said, 'hello' to a lot of people," Fellows said shortly after 8 a.m.  Plus, she fielded questions about things such as the church's precinct number. And yes, the church has a bathroom. Voter Cindy Triffon emerged with a bright rainbow umbrella. "That's why I live in America. I like …
