A suspect wanted in connection with a series of armed robberies at Pinellas and Pasco county pharmacies was arrested after a short car chase through Clearwater Thursday afternoon.
A suspect wanted in connection with a series of armed robberies at Pinellas and Pasco county pharmacies was arrested after a short car chase in Clearwater Thursday afternoon. Joseph Thomas Young, 37, was seen by Pinellas County Sheriff's deputies driving a silver sedan in Safety Harbor around 3 p.m. As deputies followed him, he sped off, according to investigators. Deputies went in pursuit of Young. The chase ended a short time later when Young crashed the stolen car off U.S. 19, south of Enterprise Rd., according to investigators. Young tried to flee on foot but was quickly found. A BB gun was found inside the vehicle along with numerous narcotic pills that Young admitted to stealing from area pharmacies, according to police. An armed gunman took pills from a Walgreens pharmacy and had to be talked out of the store's restroom by Largo Police, authorities said Tuesday. The suspect, identified as Christopher Michael Degrande, 27, was armed with a gun and obtained a bottle of pills from the pharmacy at 2295 E. Bay Dr., according to police. He also had with him "what looked like a soda bottle full of gasoline" and proceeded to the restroom, where he remained as officers arrived on scene, according to Lt. Edward Sohoski. Officers established a dialogue with Degrande, who remained in the restroom for about 35 minutes before surrendering without further incident, Sohoski said in a media release.
