Largo Boy, 15, Seriously Hurt After Getting Struck By Car

The boy was outside a crosswalk when he was hit Wednesday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

A 15-year-old Largo boy was seriously injured after he was struck by a car while crossing 66th Street North in Pinellas Park on Wednesday afternoon, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The teenager was crossing south of 90th Avenue North and was outside the crosswalk when he walked into the path of a 2003 Hyundai Sonata headed south, according to the highway patrol's preliminary investigation. The accident happened around 12:19 p.m. Wednesday. The teen was taken to Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg with serious injuries, authorities said. The driver, 62-year-old Ricardo Martinez Calvijo, of Largo, was uninjured. Charges are pending in the case, the FHP said. It remains under investigation. Sign up for the Largo Patch email …

Lost Dog Reunited With Deceased Woman's Family

The online community helped reunite a lost dog with extended family in Florida and Tennessee after its 82-year-old owner was struck and killed on a Largo street.

When Margaret Wix was struck and killed Nov. 4 on Seminole Boulevard, the 82-year-old woman had apparently been looking for her dog along the Largo street, just south of the Largo Mall. A Patch reader alerted the community two days later that a lost dog had been found, and according to its microchip, Wix was the owner. Sheri Brown of the Animal Hospital of Seminole posted the following on the Largo Patch story: "A man brought in a dog on Monday (Nov. 5) he found with it's leash still attatched to the collar. We did a scan for a microchip number and found that Ms. Wix was the owner of the dog. The phone number attatched to the dog was disconnected but when we did a search for her name in the Seminole area we found this article. We don't …

Deputies Search for Hit and Run Vehicle Door-By-Door

The investigation to find the suspect's vehicle in a Seminole hit and run, which left a Dunedin woman seriously hurt, continued Friday afternoon.

Detectives continued to search Oct. 12 for a suspect's vehicle around the Seminole neighborhood where a Dunedin woman was injured in a hit and run Wednesday afternoon. Barbara Gaymore, 76, of Dunedin, was walking with a blue suitcase on Wednesday on Starkey Road just north of Park Boulevard in Seminole near the Perkins Restaurant, said Pinellas County Sheriff spokeswoman Cecelia Barreda. Gaymore was "seriously hurt" with mutiple fractures and a head injury, Barreda said. On Friday afternoon, detectives from the Major Accident Investigation Team canvassed the neighborhood east of Starkey Road, near where a school crossing guard saw the suspect vehicle turn, Barreda said. Pedestrian Seriously Injured on Gulf to Bay

A car driven by a Largo resident hit a pedestrian Saturday night, according to a news release.

Clearwater Police continue to investigate a traffic accident, which shut down part of Gulf to Bay for more than two hours Saturday night. A pedestrian tried to cross Gulf to Bay in traffic around 10 p.m. just west of Old Coachman Road. The pedestrian was on the median and tried to cross the east bound lanes of traffic on Gulf to Bay. The pedestrian stepped off the median and fell. He picked himself up and made it to the curb lane where he fell again and was struck by a Honda driven by Alessandra L. Barthel, 32, of Largo, according to a news release. The pedestrian, a 37-year-old hispanic male, was flown to Bay Front Hospital with injuries that were believed to be life threatening, according to a news release. Police have not been able to …

Largo Motorist Injured Near School Crossing

Kari Monefeldt, 44, was transported to Largo Medical Center for minor injuries, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office.

A two-car crash in front of Madeira Beach Fundamental left two injured this morning as children headed back for the first day of school. Two were injured in the chain of events, including Monefeldt who was headed southbound on Duhme Road in Seminole, according to a news release. A car driven by Michelle Tallman, 37, was westbound on American Legion Drive around 7:15 a.m. and was turning with the green light to go southbound on Duhme Road when she reportedly tried to maneuver around school traffic, according to a news release. Third Pedestrian Fatality in Three Weeks in Largo

A 75-year-old man was struck and killed by a vehicle Wednesday (Feb. 1) evening.

A sport utility vehicle hit Patrick Davis around 7 p.m. on Feb. 1 while he was trying to cross Keene Road near Roberta Street, according to the Tampa Bay Times. Sherry Gerow, 44 drove a 2004 Chevy Tahoe north on Keene Road and struck Davis  outside of a crosswalk. An ambulance transported Davis to Largo Medical Center where he died, according to ABC Action News. No criminal charges will be filed against the driver, according to the Tampa Bay Times. The Largo Police stressed the importance of using crosswalks. "It is very important for pedestrians to use crosswalks, as these are senseless deaths that could have easily been avoided," said , a city representative, according to Bay News 9. Update: Pedestrian Killed at Ulmerton and Ridge Roads

A 54-year-old woman was struck by a van while crossing the road, which officials say was poorly lit.

Update  Investigators have identified the pedestrian killed while crossing the intersection of Ulmerton and Ridge Roads as 54-year-old Kim Theresa Nichols of Largo.  Nichols was struck by a Ford Econoline van about 100 yards west of Ridge Road Southwest as she approached the median. The driver, who is not being charged, was identified as James Robert Reid.  Officials said that the intersection was poorly lit and it is not a designated pedestrian crossing.  Previous Report A 54-year-old woman was struck and killed while crossing Ulmerton Road at Ridge Road at 6:25 this morning. Driver May Have Intentionally Hit Pedestrian, Officials Say

Witnesses say the driver was operating the vehicle recklessly before the July 29 crash and may have steered toward the victim.

Investigators think that a reckless driver intentionally hit pedestrian Richard Lee Slate III, who was standing at the intersection of 117th Avenue North and Ridgewood Road on July 29 when he was struck. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Slate was standing on the southwest corner of the intersection when a late model Honda sedan made a sharp turn onto Ridgewood and hit Slate. Slate was trapped in the undercarriage of the car and dragged 300 feet before the vehicle turned onto 116th Avenue North, officials said.
