Largo High Teacher Accused of Drinking, Smoking Pot With Students

According to the Pinellas School District, Joelle Bishop drank alcohol and smoked marijuana with students while she drove in a car with them Jan. 3. Bishop has denied the accusations and requested a hearing.

A Largo High teacher could be fired after she was accused of smoking marijuana and drinking alcohol with students. According to documents presented at Tuesday's Pinellas County School Board meeting, Joelle Bishop allowed a male student to drive her in her car to pick up two other female students and go to a friend's house. Witnesses said Bishop was drinking alcohol and offered it to the two girls; she also smoked marijuana with them in the Jan. 3 incident, the documents state. Superintendent Michael Grego recommended in a memorandum to the board that Bishop be fired after a district investigation found she had violated five school board policies, including committing a misdemeanor criminal act, having an inappropriate relationship with a …

Hometown Bucs Player Realizes His Dream

Leonard Johnson, who grew up playing football at Largo High, has cracked his first NFL roster with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

For Leonard Johnson, playing for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers isn't just a dream come true — it's a homecoming. Johnson, whose football career began with the Greenwood Panthers as a youth and continued at Largo High before he starred at Iowa State, has cracked the hometown Bucs' initial 53-man roster. “I am excited just to be back home,” Johnson told JoeBucsFan.com earlier this week. The cornerback, signed as an undrafted free agent this spring, went to Bucs games as a kid and attended Bucs coach Greg Schiano’s local football camps while in high school. Players Grab Bibles, Bats in Big League World Series

The hotel Bible is a key component of success for some of the all stars from Dunedin, Largo, Clearwater and Palm Harbor who are on their way today to represent Florida and the Southeast United States in the Big League Baseball World Series in Easley, SC.

All-Star outfielder Carter Cashman was sitting on the couch in his hotel room when he went to grab his wallet before a game early in the Big League state tournament. The recent Clearwater Central Catholic High grad saw a Bible in the drawer, picked it up, opened it to a random page and began reading a passage he doesn't remember. They won. So, Cashman and several of his teammates kept the winning tradition going as they swept the state championship and came away with the biggest title of their Little League careers — the southeast regional championship against reigning South Carolina.
