A local couple plans to celebrate a new life together in the New Year with a wedding on Indian Rocks Beach.
A Clearwater couple radiated excitement about their New Year's Day wedding plans one recent morning at Frida's Bakery in Largo. Between bites of a sample Frida's Italian-Rum cake, which they ultimately selected as their wedding day dessert, Maria Posani and Thomas William Kish shared the story of how their New Year's Day wedding on Indian Rocks Beach came to be. Posani, 45, is the mother of a young daughter with cerebral palsy. She said she had resigned to being alone as a single parent. "I didn't think anyone would accept the situation and be wonderful about it," Posani said. But Posani's life changed through an "old-fashioned personal ad" in 2010, she said. Frida's, a well-known bakery and cafe on Ulmerton Road, offers a great variety of sandwiches, breakfast crepes, salads, soups and baked goods. Plus, the spacious cafe has plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, with free WiFi available. With so many items on the menu — such as the cranberry maple ham sandwich, chicken quesadilla panini, fresh beets salad and soups of the day — it sometimes hard to pick just one item to eat. Hooray for the combos, which offer patrons the choice of picking two items. The Caesar salad and turkey with smoked gouda panini combo was delicious. The fresh salad greens were crisp. For the third presidential election Frida's Bakery is selling presidential candidate cookies.
Since 2004 Frida's Bakery has sold cookies with edible images of the presidential candidates. The Ulmerton Road bakery keeps track of the number of cookies sold for each presidential candidate. And Largo cookie buyers have correctly predicted the presidential winner in the last two elections, said Bakery Owner Frida Aalipour. This year with the Republican National Convention in Tampa, Frida's started cookie sales early. As of Wednesday, the poll showed 343 Romney cookies and 321 Obama cookies have sold. With the RNC in Tampa, Romney cookie sales have increased. There's a lot of excitement about the Republican party coming into the area, Aalipour said.
