A new Buffalo Wild Wings and a new Firehouse Subs opened at the Largo Mall in 2012.

Headed to the mall to return holiday gifts or shop sales? If lunch or supper is part of the holiday shopping plan, have you tried Largo Mall's new Buffalo Wild Wings or Firehouse Subs yet?  The community watched as the new Buffalo Wild Wings restaurant was built this summer on busy Ulmerton Road. The restaurant opened on Oct. 7, just in time for plenty of fall sports action on the TVs all around the sports bar. Besides 16 signature sauces and five dry seasonings for wings, Buffalo Wild Wings offers a full menu, including "savory" salads, wraps, and build-your-own burgers. The sports bar has 46 special high-definition TVs  for plenty of sports action. New Vehicle Helps With Beach Rescues

The Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation donated $16,700 to purchase a vehicle to help rescue people along local beaches.

If someone is injured on Indian Rocks Beach, how does rescue personnel get to them? The Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation recently donated $16,700 to Pinellas Suncoast Fire Rescue to purchase a vehicle that can go on the beach and help. "We are a beach community with over eight miles of coastline. We don't typically drive a fire truck on the beach," said Fire Chief Robert Polk of Pinellas Suncoast Fire Rescue. "For years and years, we had to move people sometimes hundreds and hundreds of yards by hand (on a stretcher). Now we can go on the beach," Polk said. The new Utility Terrain Vehicle (UTV) and Medilite Transport Deluxe System allows the fire department to navigate sandy terrain. The back of the UTV has a special area for the …

Another New Firehouse Subs Comes to Largo

A new Firehouse Subs opened recently at the Bardmoor Promenade Shopping Center.

A mural of the yellow Bardmoor Medical Arts Building across the street greets customers as they walk into the new Firehouse Subs in Largo's Bardmoor Promenade Shopping Center, which opened Nov. 7. Each of the 556 Firehouse Subs has a giant mural reflecting its location. Each mural shows a fire engine from the closest firehouse, which is Engine 30 in Semnole, said Sarju Patel, who co-owns the new franchise restaurant with Nash Kanji. The names on the backs of the uniforms, Harrison, Malone and Skote, are not Seminole firefighters but longtime local Firehouse Subs employees, Patel said. Each detail represents an image from the Largo area. The man on the stretcher came from the statue of the man holding tires on a Starkey Road building. The …

Firehouse Subs' Co-Founder Comes to Largo Store's Grand Opening

Robin Sorensen, a former fireman, came to the sub shop's new Largo Mall location on Oct. 17.

Like hearty portions of flavorful food? Back in 1994, Robin Sorensen and his brother, Chris, considered purchasing an existing sub shop in Jacksonville but decided instead to start their own restaurant. The brothers focused on big portions of delicious food, welcoming service and, being former firefighters, public safety, Sorensen said. Although the plan was just one sub shop, Firehouse Subs has grown to 543 locations across 32 states and Puerto Rico, including a brand new location at the Largo Mall, which held its grand opening Oct. 17. Many of the locations, including the new one in Largo, are franchises. Nash Kanji and Sarju Patel co-own the Largo Mall Firehouse.  Each store reflects the local town. The new Largo store has a giant mural…
