Largo Driver Involved in Fatal Accident

Bicyclist David M. Pimentel was struck by a van and killed while crossing Duhme Road in St. Petersburg on Tuesday afternoon, investigators said.

A bicyclist was struck and killed by a van driven by a Largo resident as he crossed Duhme Road in St. Petersburg, according to Tampabay.com. David M. Pimentel, a 37-year-old Madeira Beach resident, was riding his bicycle along the shoulder of the road when he turned and tried to cross the northbound lanes of Duhme Road around 51st Avenue North, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Pimentel rode into the path of a 2004 Ford van driven by Ettore Pensavalle, 62, of Largo, and was thrown from his bicycle, investigators said. Pimentel died at the scene. Pensavalle wasn't injured. Investigation of the crash continues. Charges have not been filed.
