Rep. Bill Young Sworn Into New District

New Congress, New District Number, New Phone Number

U.S. Rep. C. W. Bill Young has been sworn into the new 113th Congress this month as the Representative of the newly numbered 13th Congressional District of Florida. Young also has a new phone number for his Pinellas County District office located in Seminole. The phone number is 727-392-4100. “It is a great honor to represent the people of Pinellas County and with the beginning of this new Congress, we face many important issues,” Young said.  “I value the opinions of the people who have elected me to serve them and I hope they will continue to share their thoughts with me through their calls, their letters and their e-mails.” Under the Constitution, state legislatures redraw Congressional District boundaries every 10 years to reflect …

State and County Candidates Focus on the Economy at Largo Forum

All state and county candidates in contested central Pinellas races were invited to a breakfast candidate forum on Thursday, according to the Central Pinellas Chamber of Commerce.

Fourteen candidates in contested state, county and one federal race came and shared their message in four minutes with a packed room on Oct. 11 in Largo. The Central Pinellas Chamber of Commerce hosted the candidate forum at Largo Medical Center's Bilgore Conference Center. Candidates for Largo City Commission spoke at the last chamber forum on Sept. 26. Many of the candidates focused on the effect of the economy on Pinellas County and the need for job creation. Sheriff Bob Gualtieri (incumbent) shared the challenges of cutting his department's budget due to the current economy. I found the forum to be very informational and a great idea. It was surprising however that some of the incumbents chose not to be present. Nonetheless overall I personally am now a more informed voter on local candidates and was happy to share flyers and my notes with my neighbors who could not attend.
