It's one of those rare Florida nights when it actually feels like winter feels in most of the country. I’m not complaining; I love that I can wear shorts on Christmas. But when we do get a cold burst, I feel brilliantly alive out in the elements, wrapped in a scarf and breathing the cold air. That’s what I’m doing tonight, and I’m doing it at the Florida Botanical Gardens. There’s no snow, but it’s a Florida wonderland all its own over here. We’re launching our annual Deck the House Contest to find the most over-the-top holiday decorations in America—the best “decked” house in the country—the one home so spectacularly decorated that everyone in Largo jokes your holiday decorations could rival Rockefeller Center’s. If this sounds like your house, upload a photo or video of your home to our contest page from Nov. 26 to Dec. 16 to deckthehouse.patch.com/contest/largo. Only residents of Patch towns are eligible to enter. We’ll select 24 regional finalists, and from them, pick one grand prize winner. Patch will pay up to $500 of the utility bill for each finalist, while our national winner will have $100,000 donated to his or her local school district. Our contest is right around …

Guess Where in Largo

Guess Where in Largo is a weekly feature that tests how well you know Largo. Do you know where this photo was taken?

December is the one month in Florida when pine trees are more popular than palms. Most people would agree that Christmas trees are as much a part of Christmas as Santa is.  Christmas trees light up just about every house on most blocks. They are even in parks, government centers and tropical gardens. This Christmas tree was the center of attention at a place that has more than half a million Christmas lights. It sits on 30 acres of cultivated gardens and on 90 acres of landscaped native Florida plants. Residents who visited this location enjoyed the beautiful scenery and the mellow live piano music. The Christmas tree is in a place that has celebrated many "I do's." Where was it taken?
