Largo Residents Gather to Obtain Free Bottled Water on Christmas

Because of a water line rupture Thursday, many Largo residents are under a mandatory boil order and some are without water altogether. To help, Pinellas County distributed free bottled water to residents on Christmas Day.

It was roughly 20 minutes before a Pinellas County water distribution center was to open, and Largo residents mired in a water crisis were already arriving for free water. Despite the early arrival, it was okay. Pinellas County employees were ready for the waterless residents. "You here for the water?" Vernon Bryant asked a visitor as he was setting up traffic cones used to guide vehicles. "Okay, just pull up back there" Bryant pointed to the stash of cases upon cases of bottled water. Bryant, a supervisor with the Pinellas County Parks and Recreation department, got a call from his superiors at Pinellas County Emergency Management at 11 a.m. Friday informing him that the water distribution center would be open Christmas Day.
