The Pinellas County Health Department now offers pediatric and adult medical care at its Largo location.The Mid-County Health Center on Ulmerton Road opened its doors in January of 2012. The center's Low-Income Pool Primary Care Clinic now has health services for uninsured low-income children and adults. Services are available on a sliding-fee scale. The health department also has services for children and young people ages 18 and younger at its Gulfport location. The FDA is warning the public that young children can become seriously ill if they swallow over-the-counter eye drops and nasal decongestant sprays. There have been cases in which children age 5 and younger have been hospitalized after ingesting these products, a small amount of which could make them very sick. The products are sold under various brand names, such as Visine, Dristan and Mucinex, as well as in generic and store brands. Risk: These products are safe when used in the eyes and nose as directed. However, when swallowed, their active ingredients—tetrahydrozoline, oxymetazoline, or naphazoline—can have effects that include nausea, lethargy, decreased respiration and even a coma. Charter schools, such as Pinellas Primary Academy, offer parents another choice beyond the district's school choice options. The new elementary school is accepting students for the 2011-2012 school year.
If you're the parent of a school-aged child, you're probably researching school choice options. One of the lesser known options is applying for a charter school. Have you heard of them? The holiday break is finally here. For many kids this means no homework, staying up late, unlimited hours of television, gaming, and texting, sleeping in, and the freedom to do absolutely nothing.
