Largo Honors Veterans Sunday

The Veterans Day Ceremony will be on Nov. 11 at 7 p.m.

Largo will honor all veterans and active duty military personnel in a Veterans Day Ceremony on Sunday, Nov. 11 at 7 p.m. in Largo Central Park. The ceremony will be held in the park's Military Court of Honor. The event includes special music and a color guard presentation. All ages are welcome to attend this honorary event. For more information call (727) 587-6775. The legal public holiday for Veterans Day is observed on Monday, Nov. 12. The post office for example will be closed on Monday. Related Coverage:

Photos: September 11 Memorial Attracts Large Crowd

An estimated 1,000 to 1,500 people from around Pinellas County attended the unveiling of Palm Harbor's 9/11 memorial Tuesday morning at Curlew Hills Memory Gardens.

Residents of North Pinellas County now have a permanent memorial honoring the victims of the September 11 attacks.  The large crowd that turned out at Curlew Hills Memory Gardens in Palm Harbor for Tuesday's unveiling of the memorial was proof of the community's strong desire to remember those killed in the attacks. A thousand programs were printed for the memorial, and all were distributed to guests shortly after 9 a.m. When the ceremony started at 10:02 a.m., cars were still backed up on Curlew Road almost all the way to U.S. 19 waiting to get in. Members of city government, first responders and local Veterans of Foreign Wars posts gathered at Largo Central Park on Monday evening for an emotional Memorial Day ceremony to honor the fallen men and women of the military. Mayor Pat Gerard, State Rep. Jim Frishe of House District 54, VFW Post 10094 member Bill Haynes and the Rev. J. Arnold Johnson of the Largo Police Department all gave heartfelt speeches or read touching tributes at the park’s Military Court of Honor. But it was retired Lt. Gen. Russel L. It's humbling to see these young people participate in such an important event. My son's Boyscout pack participated in planting American flags on veteran grave sites this past weekend, along with several other packs. They were all very honored, and as a mom I was very proud of all of them.   more ›
