Largo Man Dies in Seminole Construction Accident

Fifty-two year-old Arben Berberi was killed when an eight-foot concrete slab gave way and fell on him, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office.

Updated, 4:12 p.m.: The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office has corrected the name of the deceased man. A Largo man died on Friday afternoon after a concrete slab gave way and fell on him while working on a home in Seminole, according to a Pinellas County Sheriff's Office report. The report stated 52-year-old Arben Berberi, of 8098 91st Terrace N. in Largo, was killed while he and two other men were working on a home the three of them had purchased this past spring at 8080 Robin Rd. The other two men involved in the incident, 36-year-old Genci Shkullaku and 70-year-old Shahin Shkullaku, of Seminole, were uninjured, according to the report. Police K-9 Captures Fleeing DUI Suspect

A Largo man was arrested and charged with driving under the influence after crashing his Mercedes in a median on south Clearwater Beach, according to police.

A Largo man was arrested and charged with driving under the influence after crashing his Mercedes in a median on south Clearwater Beach, according to police. A Clearwater Police officer heard Ivo N. Santos' crash a Mercedes into a median near the intersection of South Gulfview Boulevard and Gulf Boulevard around 2:12 a.m. Tuesday, according to police. The officer found that Santos had taken out palm trees, landscaping and signage, totaling the Mercedes. Santos, 29, exited the vehicle then fled, police said. Santos was found hiding behind a nearby hotel by two K-9 teams, according to investigators. Swimmers Beware: Bacteria Levels High at 5 Area Beaches

The Pinellas County Health Department issued a saltwater advisory for five beach locations after monitoring results showed a high concentration of fecal pollution. The next testing is July 30.

The Pinellas County Health Department issued a beach advisory for the water at the following beaches, based on the marine water bacterial indicator recommended by the EPA: These areas should be considered a potential health risk to swimmers. The next sampling will be conducted on July 30. The Pinellas County Health Department conducts saltwater beach testing through the Healthy Beaches Monitoring Program. Water samples are analyzed for enteric bacteria (enterococci) that normally inhabit the intestinal tracts of humans and animals, and which may cause human disease, infections or rashes. The presence of enteric bacteria is an indication of fecal pollution, which may come from stormwater runoff, pets, wildlife and sewage. The purpose of the…

Can't understand how Clearwater Beach was not part of all this....perhaps because of all of the northern visitors on vacation ? Missing Woman Found Dead

After being reported missing Monday morning, 86-year-old Lydia Jermann was found in a creek near the nursing home where she lived.

A missing elderly woman with slight dementia who was reported missing Monday morning was found dead later in the day near the nursing home where she lives.  The staff at the Highland Terrace Assisted Living Facility reported Lydia Jermann, 86, missing at 1:56 p.m., according to Clearwater Police. After an extensive search including patrol officers, detectives, police volunteers, Americorps members and the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office Eagle helicoptor, Jermann was found dead at 4:34 p.m. in a creek west of the nursing home near 1550 Lotus Path, police said.  Jermann was last seen at 3:30 a.m. in bed at the nursing home at 1520 Jeffords St, according to police. The home is not a lockdown facility, according to police. Armed Robber Holds Up PNC Bank on Roosevelt Boulevard on Friday

The suspect, described as a 25-30-year-old white male, fled the bank on foot.

The Largo Police Department reported an armed robbery at the PNC Bank at 2650 Roosevelt Boulevard on Friday afternoon. According to the police report, at around 1:00pm Friday, a white male approximately 25-30 years of age displayed a small, chrome-colored semi-automatic handgun, which he carried in his right hand. The man is reported to be between 5'8" and 5'9" in height with a thin build and short, medium length brown hair. He was wearing a long sleeve dark blue shirt with an aqua colored shirt underneath.  The suspect was also said to be wearing long dark blue jeans, a dark baseball cap with an embroidered symbol (possibly a cross) with some type of metal (studs) on the front left side. Two Men Injured in Boating Accident Saturday Morning

The incident occurred on the Inter-Coastal Waterway behind two residences in Indian Rocks Beach.

On Saturday morning at approximately 9:14 a.m., Pinellas County Sheriff's Office, Marine Unit deputies responded to a report of a singe vessel crash into a dock and a seawall behind two residences in the Inter-Coastal Waterway in Indian Rocks Beach. According to the incident report, two men were injured when the boat they were piloting collided with a dock behind a residence at 526 20th Avenue N. and a seawall behind a residence at 536 20th Avenue N. in Indian Rocks Beach. The men, identified as 65-year-old Richard Bosman of 14426 Mark Dr. in Largo and 65-year-old Samuel Roback of 18400 Gulf Blvd., #2303 in Indian Rocks Beach, were both transported to Morton Plant Hospital to treat non life-threatening injuries following the crash. …

Highpoint Standoff Ends Safely

Hours after a Pinellas County sheriff's standoff ends because deputies determined no crime had been committed, they return and take the man into protective custody.

After more than five hours, Pinellas County sheriff's deputies decided to leave the scene of what started out as a standoff between authorities and an armed man barricaded inside his Highpoint home on Avalon Avenue. “It was decided by on-scene folks that we needed to retreat back out and just leave," said Cecilia Barreda, a sheriff's spokeswoman. "If there had been some sign that a crime was committed, we would have remained." Standoff Ends With Armed Man's Surrender

A 33-year-old man barricaded himself in his home Wednesday afternoon and threatened to hurt himself, authorities said.

An armed man who barricaded himself in his home and threatened to hurt himself and anyone who tried to stop him surrendered to deputies Wednesday afternoon, according to authorities.  The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office was called to the scene by the man's mother, who said her 33-year-old son had argued with her husband. The man's parents were standing outside the home when deputies arrived. The incident occurred at 9096 109th Terrace N in unincorporated Largo.  Deputies evacuated the surrounding residences as they attempted to negotiate a peaceful surrender, officials said.
