Largo Police continue to seek the public's help in identifying a suspect who has allegedly robbed or tried to rob three banks within the last week.
Largo Police Department detectives are trying to identify a suspect who is accused of robbing or trying to rob three Wells Fargo banks within the last week, according to a media release. The suspect is accused of robbing the Wells Fargo Bank at 801 West Bay Dr. in Largo on Jan. 3, police report. The same suspect is accused of attempting to rob the Wells Fargo at 2525 West Bay Dr. in Largo around 3:50 p.m. Jan. 9. "The suspect did not complete a robbery at this bank, instead he left this location and committed a robbery at another Wells Fargo Bank on the corner of 131st Street and Park Boulevard," police said. A surveillance camera in a Seminole store recorded images of the suspect days before he allegedly shot and killed a clerk at the JFS Food Mart on Seminole Blvd.
The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office has released new images of a homicide suspect along with new details about the crime, with the hope the information will lead to the suspect's arrest. JFS Food Mart clerk Mohammod Islam was shot and killed Wednesday evening. Detectives say the suspect entered the JFS Food Mart at 11801 Seminole Blvd. just after 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 28. The suspect leaned over the counter and engaged the clerk, shot him in the upper chest, then jumped over the counter. The suspect then pistol whipped the clerk and tried to get him to open the cash register. Philip Raymond Pancoast, 39, was sentenced to 30 years in prison for a bomb hoax, possession of an explosive device and attempted robbery. A jury convicted Pancoast of these charges earlier this month. He was sentenced today at the Pinellas County Court House. Largo Police Officer Sgt. Keith Barton stopped Pancoast at 4 a.m. on Jan. 20, 2010, for not having a working tail light on his bicycle. Pancoast was riding his bike behind Keene Plaza at East Bay Drive and Keene Road. Pancoast refused to stop and attempted to flee from the officer on foot. He tried climbing a fence but was apprehended by Barton.
