Indian Rocks Beach Art Show Goes Through August

A new art exhibit will be coming to the Indian Rocks Beach Art Center this summer thanks to the Florida Artists Group.

Nature and culture can both be yours at Indian Rocks Beach this summer. The Beach Art Center is hosting a regional summer art show exhibition of works from the Florida Artists Group, Area IV, which includes Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco, Hernando, Sumter, Citrus, and Polk County. The Florida Artists Group was incorporated as a non-profit organization in 1949 and is made up of artists "whose work has attained national or state-wide recognition".  Here are five things you need to know about the event: 1) Date & Time: The art reception is Friday, June 22 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The art exhibition continues until August 3rd. 2) Location: Beach Art Center, 1515 Bay Palm Boulevard, Indian Rocks Beach. 3) Cost: The event is free to attend. 4) Art …

Osceola High Student Wins Art Award

An Osceola High School senior is one of eleven Pinellas County winners of a prestigious national art award.

Eleven Pinellas County art students are invited to a special awards ceremony on June 1 at Carnegie Hall in New York City. This is the largest number of students from the county ever to win national awards in the prestigious Scholastic Art and Writing Awards recognition program. Jalyn Fortosis, an Osceola High School student, won a silver medal for her sculpture titled, "Curls." Her art teacher is Linda Wallen. Inspiration for this artwork came from Jalyn's observations of editorial  fashion  that emphasize draped fabric that flows and curves from a central form. She is interested in sculptural fashion that is generally considered non-wearable.  In her sculpture, the curving flow of the curls is reminiscent of the flowing fabric designs …

Largo's Festival of Arts: Art and Floral Show Highlights Local Artists

The two-day event featured local artists, vendors, live demonstrations, workshops and food. Art pieces were judged in four categories: art, floral art, art-inspired floral combinations and Ikebana.

Patrick Gaughan used thick brushes to paint a vase of flowers, while Muriel Scrivner, created a fresh floral arrangement inspired by his work. Approximately 40 people watched art transform before their eyes. Scrivner, a Ph.D. and Ikebana floral expert, and Gaughan demonstrated a joint, live art presentation, which began with a blank canvass and an empty vase. The painting and floral arrangement was auctioned to benefit the Florida Sheriff Youth Ranch. The winning bid for the pair was $110.00. The art demonstration was one of several events offered at the Art and Floral Show, part of Largo's Sixth Annual Festival of Arts. Local Artwork Lights Up Largo's 6th Annual Festival of Arts

The 6th Annual Festival of Arts featured art and floral art by local artists. The two-day event was held Feb. 25 - 26, 2011 at the new Largo Community Center.

Largo's Art and Floral show featured a variety of artwork by local artists. The gallery displayed works in mixed media, pen and ink, watercolors, acrylics, oils, floral arrangements and Ikebana. The show awarded prizes in four categories: art, floral art, art-inspired floral combinations and Ikebana. Artists Muriel Scrivner and Patrick J. Gaughan joined artistic forces in a live art demonstration. Their paired work, Gaughan's floral painting and Scrivner's floral art arrangement, were auctioned to benefit the Florida Sheriff Youth Ranch. The event was held at the Largo Community Center on Feb. 25 and Feb. 26, 2011. Attendees enjoyed the art gallery, demonstrations, workshops and vendors.
