Video: Tribute to Largo Soldier

The Hillsborough Sheriff's Office shared this video tribute to fallen American hero U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Matthew Sitton.

The body of U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Matt Sitton returned home to Largo last month with an honor escort. Sitton, 26, died Aug. 2 in Afghanistan; it was the third deployment for the Indian Rocks Christian School graduate. The video, released by the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office with the Sitton family's permission, follows the fallen soldier's journey from MacDill Air Force Base in South Tampa to Largo. Late Largo Soldier's Letter Changed Congressman's Mind on War

Matt Sitton wrote to U.S. Rep. C.W. Bill Young about his concerns regarding improvised explosive devices in Afghanistan. Last month, he was killed by one.

A letter from a Largo soldier who was killed in action in Afghanistan helped change a Congressman's position on the war, TBO.com reports. U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Matt Sitton wrote to U.S. Rep. C.W. Bill Young, who attended the same Largo church, regarding his concerns about his men being forced to walk through fields full of improvised explosive devices, according to TBO. Sitton, 26, was killed by an IED last month. Since then, Young has reversed his position on Afghanistan — in part, he says, because of Sitton's letter. Clearwater Marine Aquarium Raises $10K For Largo Soldier's Family

Before he died in Afghanistan last month, Matthew Sitton was looking forward to bringing his infant son to the aquarium, which is now dedicated to helping the family.

A fundraiser at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium has raised $10,000 and counting for the family of a fallen soldier from Largo. The aquarium donated $2 from every general admission ticket Saturday, and volunteers collected donations from patrons in an attempt to help the family of U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Matthew Sitton, 26, who died in August after stepping on an improvised explosive device in Afghanistan. Sitton, an Indian Rocks Christian School graduate, was due home this month. During the family's last Skype conversation, Sitton told his wife, Sarah, how excited he was about taking their now 10-month-old son, Brodey, to local family attractions, including the Clearwater Marine Aquarium. Fundraiser at Clearwater Marine Aquarium for Fallen Largo Soldier Saturday

The Clearwater Marine Aquarium will donate part of each admission Saturday to Army Staff Sgt. Matthew Sitton's son's scholarship fund.

The community continues to support the family of fallen soldier U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Matt Sitton, including his infant son Brodey.  Sitton, 26, died Aug. 2 in Afghanistan; it was the third deployment for the Indian Rocks Christian School graduate and Largo resident. Sitton was due home this month. Largo Soldier's Family Moved by Community's Support

The community continues to show its support for fallen American hero and Indian Rocks Christian School grad, Matthew Sitton.

Friends and community members came to a scholarship fundraiser for the 9-month-old son of U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Matt Sitton at the Dairy Queen in Seminole on Aug. 28.  Sitton, 26, died Aug. 2 in Afghanistan; it was the third deployment for the Indian Rocks Christian School graduate and Largo native. Matt Sitton's mom Cheryl Sitton says the community support has been "overwhelming" in a good way. "I want people to know how deeply we have been moved by our community and how proud I am to be a part of this community," Cheryl Sitton said. "The people of Pinellas and Hillsborough have shown us what American pride is all about." Fallen Hero is Welcomed Home in Escort to Largo

The body of U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Matt Sitton made its way from MacDill Air Force Base in South Tampa to his hometown of Largo on Friday with a lot of support along the way.

Largo Soldier's Widow: 'He Wanted to Be an American Hero'

Sarah Sitton hopes people will show their support at the funeral and along the roadways when the fallen American hero and Indian Rocks Christian School grad comes home most likely later this week.

Largo Soldier Killed in Afghanistan

Matt Sitton, 26, was killed by a bomb last week, the second member of his graduating class at Indian Rocks Christian to die while serving in Afghanistan.

A soldier from Largo was killed last week in Afghanistan, according to media reports. U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Matt Sitton, 26, died after stepping on an improvised explosive device in Afghanistan, according to Bay News 9. Sitton's parents, Cheryl and Steve, were informed of his death Thursday. "My whole life, every plan that I made, stopped on Aug. 2, 2012," Sarah Sitton told TBO.com. The 2004 Indian Rocks Christian graduate is survived by his wife, Sarah, and 9-month-old son, Brodey.
