The boy was outside a crosswalk when he was hit Wednesday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
A 15-year-old Largo boy was seriously injured after he was struck by a car while crossing 66th Street North in Pinellas Park on Wednesday afternoon, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The teenager was crossing south of 90th Avenue North and was outside the crosswalk when he walked into the path of a 2003 Hyundai Sonata headed south, according to the highway patrol's preliminary investigation. The accident happened around 12:19 p.m. Wednesday. The teen was taken to Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg with serious injuries, authorities said. The driver, 62-year-old Ricardo Martinez Calvijo, of Largo, was uninjured. Charges are pending in the case, the FHP said. It remains under investigation. Sign up for the Largo Patch email …

In the mood for a bowl of chili, Patch stopped by Cosmo's Cafe recently. The eatery is known for its homestyle soups and daily specials. The restaurant, in a shopping plaza just south of Ulmerton Road, serves breakfast all day. All lanes of 66th Street North near 90th Avenue North in Pinellas Park will be closed for railroad repairs for about one week starting today, according to the state Department of Transportation.
Motorists headed on 66th Street North, just south of Largo, will face a detour from Sept. 28 (today) at 5 a.m. until Oct. 5 in the afternoon, according to the state Department of Transportation. The state Department of Transportation and CSX will close all lanes on 66th Street North near 90th Avenue North in Pinellas Park for railroad repairs starting Friday. Motorists will need to travel on Belcher Road or US Highway 19. Detour signs will be in place.
