Photo Gallery: Apparent Tornado Goes Through McGough Park

Tree crews and neighbors cleaned up downed trees, power lines and a billboard.

Late Sunday afternoon a tornado apparently went through George McGough Nature Park from Walsingham Road to Bonner Park along the intercoastal. The "tornado" came along with Tropical Storm Debby.

Largo Parks Superintendent Greg Brown said from what they had heard as of early Monday morning, McGough and Bonner were the worse hit of Largo's parks. He said the damage appeared to be from a tornado.

McGough Park is open including its summer camp program. Bonner Park remains closed. The city continues to clean up about two dozen downed trees in Largo Central Park and an additional 24 trees in assorted locations, Brown said.

The storm kicked down power lines, trees and even a billboard on Walsingham Road.

Neighbors were assessing the damage Monday morning as they cleaned up. A row of tree crews worked on cleaning up the debris along 145th St. North.
