Simplify Life in Largo
Living within your budget and without too much “stuff” may sound boring, but for many people, it’s just the thing makes enjoying life even better. Once debt is eliminated and savings start to add-up, the incredible sense of relief sets in. And for many people, this relief increases their enjoyment and happiness.
Make no mistake - there are many challenges to living simply, especially in the Tampa Bay area. But all of these challenges can be overcome.
Challenge One: Income
The first challenge is one that many in the area are personally affected by. Low wages. The median 2013 income in the area was $41,404 while the median household income throughout the United States (in 2012) was $51,107. That’s a lot less money just to enjoy the sunshine.

Challenge Two: Cost of Living
Yes, the cost of living seems high in the Tampa Bay area, especially Pinellas county, even if the official numbers don’t add up.That’s because some costs are not taken into account, like the high cost of transportation, health care, utilities, food and almost everything else. Like income, overcoming the cost of living involves staying on budget. It also includes the “Simplicity Mindset,” which declares this one universal principle: I have enough. Of course there are needs, such as food, shelter, health care, etc., but many things are not needed, like a house or apartment close to the beach, a brand new car every few years, and many other luxuries most people take for granted. Reducing these can help you overcome the high cost of living we’re all paying!
Challenge Three: Too Much Stuff
Have you ever seen the A&E show “Hoarders?” While the show deals primarily with people suffering from mental illnesses, there are some things that everyone can learn. For starters, it can be difficult for a person to know how much stuff is too much. When there is too much stuff, it harder to focus and enjoy life.
This can be the easiest step to uncluttering your space and living simply. Just follow this rule of thumb. If you have “stuff,” such as nick-nacks, decorations, furniture, clothing, or anything else that you haven’t used in over a year, get rid of it! If you can sell it, go for it. Otherwise, donate it to a local charity or online using a service like freecycle.
The simple life just means that you are in control of your possessions (your stuff) and they are no longer in control of you.
