New Superintendent's First Day Includes Stop at Largo School

The new Pinellas County Schools Superintendent spent part of his first day on the job at Mildred Helms Elementary School.

The new Pinellas County Schools chief Dr. Michael Grego made a stop at Mildred Helms Elementary on Sept. 26.

The Pinellas County School Board unanimously appointed Grego on Sept. 25. His contract, which goes through June 30, 2015 includes, according to a news release:

  • A $240,000 annual base salary for 2012-13
  • A $750 a month car allowance for the use of his personal vehicle
  • 20 weeks of salary, if the board terminates him without cause

Grego replaces Interim Superintendent Dr. John A. Stewart who served for one year.

Before joining the Pinellas County Schools Grego served as an associate professor at the University of Central Florida. He was also superintendent of the Osceola County Schools near Orlando from 2008 to 2011. Grego has three decades of experience in public education.
