During my dog's stay at Advantage Pet Center, my dog experienced Gastric dilatation volvulus, otherwise known as Bloat or Twisted Stomach. There are many causes for this, but the key one is eating/drinking followed by exercise, playing, lots of movement, etc, which I believe was the case at Advantage Pet Center, based on comments from the APC staff and the fact this happened under their care. Sadly, GDV / Twisted Stomach is very deadly and must be caught immediately. APC did notify us that our dog had vomited and that we "might want to come and get him", but there was no special sense of urgency nor suggestion of a visit to the vet. Well, upon picking him up, it was clear something was wrong...it was like a different dog. Long story short, he had an emergency surgery and lived through the surgery, but died 4 days later from Pneumonia (common side effect of the surgery, especially if not treated immediately). On December 4th, 2013, I lost the most loyal, humble, noble friend I have ever had, Alexander the Great Dane. To make matters worse, the cost for this was $11,000 (excluding the fee that APC charged me). It is my opinion that APC did not purposefully kill my dog, but it doesn't matter, he is gone and my wife and I spent a significant amount of our savings trying to save him. It goes without saying that I strongly recommend you consider another pet boarding center.
