Will Largo Taxes Go Up?

The City Commission voted on a tax rate that would increase property taxes. But hold on. It's not the final number.

First the good news: The Largo tax rate has not been set – just yet.

But hold on: The Largo City Commission has voted to increase the property tax rate by 4.3 percent, according to TBNweekly.com

But the vote was for discussion purposes only, as it would lead to homeowners paying more on their property taxes. Now the real work begins.

The next public hearings on Largo's budget and local taxes are Tuesday, Sept. 3, and Wednesday, Sept. 18. The meetings are at City Hall, 201 Highland Ave., at 6 p.m.

Residents are being asked to arrive with ideas for cutting costs – and thus keeping taxes down.

The rate that the Largo Commission voted on is the maximum property tax rate. The commission is required to do this for the Pinellas County Property Appraiser’s Truth in Millage notice, which is sent out to Pinellas County residents Aug. 19.

So the tax rate may be lower, but it definitely will not be any higher than the rate set by the commission on July 16.

According to TBNweekly.com, the proposed rate is $5.21 for every $1,000 of taxable value. That would translate into a property owner paying $23 more on a $112,500 home, for example.
