Traffic Signal Changes Planned for East Bay Drive

The new traffic light system should "eliminate excessive traffic back ups" along East Bay Drive, according to the city.

Ever experienced long lines of traffic during rush hour on East Bay Drive?

A new traffic light signal system is planned for eight intersections on East Bay Drive. The proposed traffic signals will be monitored by a video system instead of using a timer to adjust for peak traffic times.

"Once the system is in place, it should eliminate excessive traffic back ups along the corridor," according to the weekly city manager's report.

There may be some traffic back ups to get the new system into place. The city has a tentative schedule for the traffic system changes. For the next several weeks on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. some traffic lights will most likely be shut down. During the system conversion Largo Police Officers will direct traffic.

Do you think the new traffic light system will eventually help alleviate traffic? Post a comment below to share your thoughts.

I think this will absolutely help the congestion, I live off East Bay between Belcher and Keene and there is, quite often an accident at Seacrest (Cornerstone Bank). When I get home from work I try not to venture out due to the craziness of the traffic. Might help however it will depend on the decision of the placements of the signals...

Until people stop driving like AZZHOLES,It wont change a thing. They are always in such a hurry to get to the next red-light and wait, jerks. I have never in ANY state seen drivers as rude and reckless as here.

I must agree with you Rick. On the flipside, until the hellacious Ulmerton construction is completed, West/East Bay will continue to have issues :(

I do the speed limit, I also use my turn signals, that's the little stalk on the left side of the steering wheel for those (most of you) who don't know, I also let people out and I don't block driveways (starkey rd @ Bardmoor Publix ) I also do not pull into an intersection if not sure I will make if through before the light changes(starkey /ulmerton ) I know these things upset you other drivers, but it's called knowing HOW to actually drive. And one more thing, riding mh bumper down east bay rd at 45 mph will notable me speed up. Although it very well might get you a ticket .

I don't know why it takes 3 yrs to re-construct Ulmerton. It's really a joke - I can be out there anytime of day and there's no one working. I worked on a road building project that re-built a road from a cow path to three lanes, sewers, drains and chip seal in less than one year - we worked 12 hrs/day, 7 days/wk.
