Other facts

I started my law enforcement career when I was hired by the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office at the age of 19. I was promoted to corporal and worked as a field training officer and traffic homicide investigator. While working as a deputy, I attended college part-time and earned my degree in business finance. I left the Sheriff's Office to attend law school at the University of Florida. I have practice law in Pinellas County for 14 years in the areas of civil litigation, estate planning, probate, and corporate law. I live in Palm Harbor with my wife and two children.

He is running because he is the best qualified for the job!

He is the best qualified for the job. Pinellas County needs a change back to the right direction. Mr. Swope is it. People need to not jump to "don't expect to get my vote", "why even running" until you sit down and talk with him. He has a good head on his shoulders ready to address serious issues that are currently being ignored. He and his wife both care about what is happening on the streets as well as what is Not happening on the streets. Meaning, the the inappropriate responses of some deputies, some deputies putting us in a position to endanger ourselves by having to stand our own ground because the current attitude of many deputies is putting our physical ability appearance out weigh the criminal act. He believes in proactive approaches, not just clean up the messes, and wants to put the serve back into law enforcement. Don't look at the political title, Democrat, look at who he is and what he can do for our county and community. I'm Republican, but each day I see this childish "bash the other party" I lean more to wanting to change to independant. I might as well, I already think like that. What I have seen is so many political figures slam and slander the opposing party so much that you never really know where they stand. Mr. Scott Swope knows where he stands, tells you where he stands and what he will do, and is not into slandering the other side. That is true character, that is someone you want in office.

I applaud Scott's honest effort to run a very large and complicated law enforcement sheriff's office but I just don't feel he's as qualified as Bob Gualtieri to manage a much-changed agency from when Scott reported for work as a deputy so many years ago. Try and remember all the campaign rhetoric and heat pitched by Rice about Gualtieri not working his way up through the ranks or having spent as much time as Rice working for the agency. Scott's tremendous lack of experience in personnel management and other PCSO responsibilities holds true even more so for Scott in spite of the support he's getting from revenge-motivated Rice followers sulking over his Primary loss. It's a big stretch to imagine that Scott would be a better candidate for sheriff than Bob Gualtieri or, for that matter, Everett Rice. As I mentioned many times to Scott and others, I think he is a fine and well-spoken person who will one day find the right political office for which he is best suited and qualified. I just don't believe that office to be the sheriff's office.

I know from personal experience with the PCSO under temp. sheriff Gualtieri that the PCSO needs serious overhaul. The budget was brought in line because the budget was bloated to begin with the 1.2 million spent in the legal department, especially when if a civil case goes to trial the PCSO hires outside legal counsel. Serious problems in the internal affairs department, with the fox guarding the hen house, Management skills? Why do you think there are so many ethical issues going on at the PCSO? A one time pay out for all PCSO employees that was granted by Gualtieri early 2012, when he knew he would run for sheriff but paid out Oct, nice pay off for votes. Swope will be a breath of fresh air
