New Health Center Opened This Week

A new county medical center will make a variety of medical and dental services more accessible to families in Largo.

The Pinellas County Health Department opened a new location Jan. 30 to better serve the community. The Mid-County Health Center, 8751 Ulmerton Rd., has offices open now, where residents can get birth and death certificates, said Maggie Hall, county health Public Information Director.

The 54,397 sq. ft. health center will also house the WIC program, immunizations and a full spectrum of clinical services. Medical and dental services will be offered starting in late February. Services will shift gradually from the Clearwater center, where planned renovations will close part of the building, Hall said.

The new Ulmerton Road location joins existing centers in St. Petersburg, Pinellas Park, Largo, Clearwater and Tarpon Springs.

"We are happy to be serving the community at the Mid-County Health Center,"
said Dr. Claude M. Dharamraj, the county health
department's director.

"The new health center comes at the right time to serve the North Pinellas community. This allows our older health center in Clearwater to be renovated because it has outgrown the capacity to serve the needs of the area," Dharamraj said.

The health department vacated rented space on East Bay Drive and moved its
Environmental Health and Vital Statistics staff to the new Mid-County Health
Center location. Regional county health department legal services are also
housed at the new center. Maternal-Child Health Home Visiting Services, which
includes Healthy Start, will move in during late February, according to a news release.
