Largo Community Development Helps Residents Overhaul Their Homesteads

The following is a news release from the city of Largo:

Just because a roof leaks, doesn't mean the rains will stop. Just because the A/C is broken, doesn't mean Summer heat will stay away. And in Largo, just because a resident's money well is dry, doesn't mean those necessary repairs can't get done. That's because the City of Largo Housing Rehabilitation Program provides low or no-interest loans to eligible homeowners to make improvements to their homes.

Glynis Rutter, who recently participated in the program, was very impressed with the simplicity of the entire process. "I was amazed at just how easy it was," she said.  Glynis helped her 91-year-old mother, Lilian, work with Largo Community Development to have several badly-needed repairs completed including a new roof and new windows. After years of struggling with a damaged roof that needed regular patching and repairs, Glynis learned about the Housing Rehabilitation Program through some very helpful neighbors. She then visited Largo.com,  downloaded and submitted an application and soon was speaking with a representative from the Community Development Department.  "Somebody explained the process to us every step of the way. It wasn't the least bit intimidating."

The Housing Rehabilitation Program offers loans with interest rates from zero to two percent which are available to Largo residents who meet certain income eligibility requirements.  The maximum repayment period available is 20 years and there are also deferred payment loans available. Other occupancy and equity requirements exist as well. To learn more about the Housing Rehabilitation Program, visit Largo.com/housing or call Largo Community Development at (727)586-7489 x7314.
