Indian Rocks Beach Seeks $4 Million From BP Over Oil Spill
Indian Rocks Beach is among four Pinellas County beach cities seeking more than $12 million in damages as a result of the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill.
Indian Rocks Beach is among four Pinellas County beach cities seeking a total of more than $12 million in damages as a result of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in 2010, the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Madeira Beach, St. Pete Beach and Treasure Island have also filed claims against BP for lost tax revenue and other costs associated with the spill, even though oil did not reach any of their shores. The deadline to file was Jan. 19.
BP says it has already paid more than $9.8 billion in claims and government payments as a result of the spill, which poured about 172 million gallons of crude oil into the Gulf of Mexico after an offshore rig exploded.

Here is a breakdown of how much the beach cities are seeking from BP, according to the Times:
- Indian Rocks Beach: $4 million
- Madeira Beach: $2.5 million
- St. Pete Beach: $6.4 million
- Treasure Island: Undisclosed
