City Commission to Seek Approval for New Pedestrian Traffic Signals

Largo City Commissioners will consider approving the replacement of four pedestrian crossing warning signals that were installed between 2006 and 2008 at tonight's meeting.

The signals, which are located along Clearwater Largo Road, have proven difficult to maintain and can be upgraded with a newer, more effective signal system that has recently been approved by the Florida Department of Transportation.

One such faulty signal on Southeast 8th Avenue in front of Largo Middle School was replaced in early 2012 after it failed. Replacing the other four systems, which still meet FDOT standards, would cost up to $126,000.

Other items on the agenda include:

• Authorization to remove three underground fuel tanks on the property formerly occupied by the PSTA in order to be in compliance with Florida Department of Environmental Protection requirements.
• A request to authorize the purchase of liquid aluminum sulfate for the Regional Stormwater Treatment Facility located at the Largo Central Park Nature Preserve.
• Staff from the Office of Management and Budget will present findings from their Community Values Survey that was made available for citizen input from March 15, 2012 to April 16, 2012.
