As a part of that effort, McDonald's plans to rebuild its West Bay Drive site. Because of the restaurant's location in the community redevelopment area, some special approvals have been required by the city commission.
The city commission approved on April 17 allowing McDonald's to build a one-story restaurant instead of a two-story structure as required by the community redevelopment area guidelines.
McDonald's submitted sketches showing a building, which gives a two-story appearance. The building's glass facade will make it look like the restaurant has a second-story.
The proposed new building will be 4,365 square-foot. The restaurant will have side-by-side drive-throughs, which enhances circulation and improves customer service.
McDonald's still needs to submit the formal site plans, which will go through various city reviews such as engineering, landscaping, and stormwater drainage.
If all goes as planned, McDonald's hopes to start construction July 1. The whole building process will take 75 to 80 days. During construction restaurant employees will be temporarily relocated to other nearby McDonald's, according to a McDonald's representative at the meeting.
