'Voices Made Me' Steal Nike Shoes

That was a Houston man's excuse for stealing a pair of Nike shoes at Largo Mall Sunday, according to Largo Police.

Voices told a Houston man to steal a pair of Nike shoes at Largo Mall on Sunday, according to police.

LT Jones, 53, walked into the shoe section at the Bealls at Largo Mall at 5:12 p.m., according to Largo Police. He cut a security tag off with a pair of Nike shoes with wire cutters, investigators said. Then Jones tried to hide the pair of shoes down the front of his pants, police said.

Jones walked past all the checkouts and left the store before a loss prevention employee confronted and escorted him back into the store, according to police.

After Jones was read his Miranda Rights he said he took the shoes because he did not take medication for his mental disorder and voices told him to take them, police said.

Jones was arrested and charged with retail theft and retail theft inventory control device countermeasure. He is in jail awaiting trial on $2,150 bond.
