Ulmerton Road Reopens to Traffic After Reported Gas Leak

Ulmerton Road has reopened to traffic following a temporary closure because of a reported gas leak, Largo Police said.

The roadway had been shut down Tuesday near Tall Pines Drive in Largo as Pinellas County Sheriff's deputies and other authorities arrived at the scene.

Largo Fire Rescue responded to reports of a natural gas leak in the area of Ulmerton and Wild Acre roads, according to a post on Largo Fire Rescue's Facebook page.

While on the way, dispatch let the firefighters know "a construction crew had struck a large gas line and there was an active leak. The first units arrived within 3 minutes of dispatch and determined that a 4-inch line was struck and there was a need to shut down the area to vehicular and pedestrian traffic," Largo Fire reports.

The Largo Police Department and the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office helped block off Ulmerton Road near the leak. The fire department determined the gas line belonged to TECO gas. The company came to the scene and secured the gas line, Largo Fire reports.

Ulmerton reopened sometime around 2 p.m. Tuesday, according to a police official.
