Strange Twist, But No Foul Play in Largo Woman's Death, Authorities Say

The 68-year-old woman had apparently been living inside the home even though it had gone under foreclosure and had utilities disconnected, according to Largo Police.

An autopsy showed no signs of foul play in the death of a woman whose body was found by a lawn maintenance worker inside her Largo home Tuesday, authorities said.

The woman, later identified as 68-year-old Geneva Smith Chambers, appeared to have been dead for some time when the worker found her body in the home at 1420 Alexander Way, according to Largo Police.

Chambers had been residing in the home even though it had apparently had gone under foreclosure sometime in 2009 or 2010 and had its utilities disconnected years ago, detectives said.

Neighbors said they believed the woman had abandoned the home, describing her as a "recluse," and they had been maintaining the exterior of her home while unaware of her death, police said.

"Court records indicate foreclosure notices were initiated in October of 2009 and the latest documented contact with Chambers occurred during a pawn transaction in April of 2010," Largo Police Lt. Michael Loux said in a media release.

Utilities had been disconnected at the home in June 2010, and notices on the home indicated a foreclosure was in process, Loux said.

Detectives are continuing the investigation.
