Autopsy results released Thursday confirm that former professional wrestler Randy "Macho Man" Savage died of heart disease.
On May 20, Savage was in a car crash in Seminole. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, he lost control of his car and hit a tree head on.
Authorities said the crash occurred at 9:25 a.m. Savage was traveling with his wife, Barbara L. Poffo, 56, who suffered minor injuries.
Earlier reports by ESPN said Savage may have suffered a "medical event" before the accident. Officials could not confirm the cause of death until an autopsy was performed.
The autopsy conducted by the District 6 Medical Examiner's Office revealed that Savage had an enlarged heart with severe atherosclerosis of his coronary arteries. His heart condition caused him to become unresponsive, which caused him to crash.
Savage suffered only minor cuts and bruises from the car accident, officials said.
Savage was treated at , where he died at 10:08 a.m. May 20. He was 58 years old.
