Pedestrian Seriously Injured on Gulf to Bay

A car driven by a Largo resident hit a pedestrian Saturday night, according to a news release.

Clearwater Police continue to investigate a traffic accident, which shut down part of Gulf to Bay for more than two hours Saturday night.

A pedestrian tried to cross Gulf to Bay in traffic around 10 p.m. just west of Old Coachman Road.

The pedestrian was on the median and tried to cross the east bound lanes of traffic on Gulf to Bay. The pedestrian stepped off the median and fell. He picked himself up and made it to the curb lane where he fell again and was struck by a Honda driven by Alessandra L. Barthel, 32, of Largo, according to a news release.

The pedestrian, a 37-year-old hispanic male, was flown to Bay Front Hospital with injuries that were believed to be life threatening, according to a news release.

Police have not been able to locate the pedestrian's family and have not yet released his identity.
