Local Fire Rescue Team Wins State Award

The Pinellas County Technical Rescue Team, which includes Largo firefighters, was awarded the 2012 Search and Rescue Responder of the Year Award by the Florida Chiefs Association, according to an email from Largo Fire Rescue.

The Pinellas County Technical Rescue Team was awarded the 2012 Search and Rescue Responder of the year by the Florida Fire Chiefs Association recently, according to an email from Largo Fire Rescue.

The award recognizes a team or individual whose acts and deeds as a Search & Rescue responder, career, or volunteer, demonstrates the highest level of excellence and ongoing commitment to the fire service and community. 

Firefighter Tim Garten who is part of the Technical Rescue Team represented Largo Fire Rescue at the ceremony.  The award was presented at the annual Florida Fire Chiefs conference which was held in Daytona.

The Pinellas County Technical Rescue Team is made up of individuals from Largo, Clearwater, Pinellas Park and St. Petersburg.

Firefighters that are selected to be on the Technical Rescue Team are required to attend additional on going training and held to a higher standard regarding their rescue skills.

The Pinellas County Technical Rescue Team responds to any incident that requires special equipment or skills such as building collapses, trench rescue, high angle rescue, and industrial accidents.
