Firefighter Moonlighted in Prescription Pill Sales, Cops Say

The Largo man is behind bars, facing 16 separate charges.

A Pinellas Park firefighter and part-time emergency room nurse’s double life in prescription pill sales has come to an end, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies say they received a tip Friday, July 11 about James Allen Comer’s double life. So, they conducted a controlled purchase from him that very night.

“Comer sold and was in possession of eight different types of prescription pills, to include morphine, xanax, hydromorphone and oxycontin,” the sheriff’s office wrote in an email to media. “He was arrested for 8-counts sale of a controlled substance and 8-counts possession of a controlled substance.”

Comer, 38, works at the Pinellas Park Fire Department as a firefighter and SWAT medic. He’s also a nurse at Northside Hospital in St. Petersburg where he was arrested July 12. It is unclear at this time where Comer obtained the prescription pills from, but deputies say their investigation is ongoing.

Comer remained in the Pinellas County Jail Saturday night awaiting trial, according to jail records.
