Cause of Largo Mobile Home Fire Still Under Investigation

A fire that destroyed a mobile home Monday in Largo is still under investigation by Largo Fire Rescue.

A fire that destroyed a mobile home Monday at the Kings Manor Mobile Home Park, 1399 Belcher Road South, is still under investigation late Tuesday said Largo Fire Rescue chief Jim Warman.

The fire could have been much worse, Warman said.

"There were four residents that were not home at the time" of the fire, Warman said.

Initially, firefighters feared an infant was in the burning home as responders learned of a crib.

"We made a significant effort to search" the premises for a child during the fire, Warman said, but firefighters could not find a child. Then, a neighbor who was a babysitter for the family, informed firefighters that the child was with family members and the search ended.

Warman said investigators suspect the fire was caused by some type of electric issue, but are waiting for the completion of the investigation before determining the cause.
