4 Rescued From Boat Taking On Water in Gulf

A good Samaritan and the U.S. Coast Guard came to the rescue of the four people, including three kids, in the boat 11 miles west of Indian Rocks Beach.

An adult and three children were rescued by the U.S. Coast Guard and a good Samaritan after their boat began taking on water 11 miles west of Indian Rocks Beach on Tuesday.

A person aboard the 23-foot boat contacted Sector St. Petersburg watchstanders on the radio at 8:23 a.m. to call for help, Coast Guard officials said.

A good Samaritan aboard the "Reel Deal" took the three children aboard his boat while the other person stayed aboard to repair and dewater the vessel. A 45-foot Coast Guard boat from Station Sand Key arrived to help and towed the boat to Clearwater Marina.

No injuries were reported. The source of the flooding is still unknown.

"They had life jackets and contacted the Coast Guard via radio as soon as they knew there was an issue," said Chief Petty Officer Harold Leboeuf, a search and rescue coordinator at the sector, in a statement. "Their call not only alerted the Coast Guard but also a good Samaritan in the area who responded."
