The Florida Delegation had a breakfast meeting and featured speakers were Senator Mark Warner and Newark Mayor Cory Booker. Warner was very good. He is pro-business (he started NEXTEL) and pro-Obama. But Cory Booker dazzled us with his personal stories and his commitment to getting Obama re-elected. If you get a chance to see him, do it. He will be speaking at the Hillsborough County Dem Kennedy King Dinner next month.
I attended the Latino Leaders Luncheon and I am personally inspired by LA Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa. He is also chairing the Convention this week. Dept. of Interior Secretary Ken Salazar and Labor Secretary Hilda Solis also spoke.
It has been rainy here in Charlotte. Very humid. But Charlotte is great. I can do without the long lines. 45 minutes waiting in line for pork sandwich! There were also lines just to get in.
My favorite speakers at the convention were Gov. Strickland of Ohio, Gov. Patrick from Massachusetts, Cory Booker, Julian Castro (his beginnings remind me of my beginnings) and Michelle Obama.
I support the President because of his dedication to improving the economy by investing in education, his leadership getting us out of Iraq and killing Osama Bin Laden, his caring for veterans and military families, and his leadership on pushing substantive health insurance reforms.
Michelle Obama is speaking at my hotel at noon today. The hotel is on shut down. Until about a half hour before the luncheon, no one is allowed on the floor where she is speaking. Secret Service is sweeping the area.
Looking forward to more caucus meetings today including the Hispanic Caucus, Veterans and Military Families Caucus, and the Faith Council meeting.
