Pinellas County Honors Local Veteran

The following news release was submitted for publication by the county of Pinellas: 


Vietnam veteran and local artist Mike Willis was recently honored by the Pinellas County Veterans Service Office.

 

Willis attends the Bay Pines Veterans art therapy group and volunteered to create a painting which represented pride and patriotism.

“Sometimes ideas come through based upon how my week has gone and is a way of me bringing out those emotions and creativity, said Willis. “I had never worked on a piece this large so this was a real challenge.”

After starting the project, Willis said, “Even the size of the canvas could not contain all of the thoughts and emotions that went into this. I wanted to get it just right as a memorial to my fellow servicemen and women. This was truly a work of the heart.”

 

The painting is displayed in the Health and Community/Veterans Services offices in St. Petersburg.
