Who Has The Best Cheesesteak in Largo?

Largo has no shortage of restaurants serving up authentic cheesesteaks. But whose is the best?

As far as we know, Largo does not hold any official claim to the title Cheesesteak Capital of Tampa Bay.

But as someone recently mentioned to Patch, there is a high concentration of places serving authentic cheesesteaks in the greater Largo area.

That got us to thinking: Who serves the best cheesesteak in Largo?

A quick search shows us there is no shortage of candidates.

The list starts with on East Bay Drive. Their website claims they were the first restaurant in Florida to import Amoroso rolls, a vital component of any authentic cheesesteak, directly from Philadelphia; some people claim a cheesesteak isn’t a real cheesesteak without the real roll.

Further investigation reveals  on Ulmerton Road also has a “direct from Philly” connection. Owner Big Jim is something of a legend in the City of Brotherly Love, where his hoagies earned “Best Cheesesteak in Philly” nods six years in a row, and his claim to offer real sliced steak, and plenty of it, is a deal maker for some.

, with two locations in Largo, might be better known for its delicious pies, but any establishment that puts “cheesesteaks” in the title should serve a quality product.

on the corner of Missouri Avenue and East Bay Drive is something of a Largo landmark, having been in the area for more than 20 years. It is also known to make a mean cheesesteak, which one reviewer called “the best steak & cheese around.”

Other area cheesesteak spots include , , and what may be considered a darkhorse candidate, .

Delcos is a great choice, Tony, but for the purpose of this poll, all the places were located in Largo. Thanks for the input!

Philly's Famous Cheesesteaks were very good, but I'll never eat there again. One day when I was able to get one of the few tables there to sit inside with my mother to eat, there were roaches on the wall and one walking up the counter. I've eaten there a lot before that and loved the cheesesteaks and the gravy fries.. But that was a turn off for me.. I never had a cheesesteak at Big Jim's, but they have some good food too..

Roaches??! Phillys Famous Cheesesteaks is the best in Largo by far and I have never seen 1 bug in that place. They have awesome food and service!

According to the Philly's website, they were the first restaurant in all of Florida to use Amoroso rolls. Philly's opened in 1990 and Delco's around 2000. Both are good but I give the edge to Philly's on the flavor of the steak and the size of the cheesesteak. Also born and raised in Philly!!

I read the review of Philly's and of Big Jim's on the Largo Patch. I must agree with the food critic that Philly's does make a much better cheesesteak in terms of flavor and they do have some cool side orders. He mentioned the Fried Greenbeans but I like the Fried Pickles and the cream cheese Jap Bites

I don't know, me and my wife been eating there every Friday night for years and we never saw anything. The place looks clean in there but sometimes they do have the door open, something could of flew in or maybe he was eating outside.
