Two New Grocery Stores Planned for Largo Area

Two new Okey-Dokey "value-focused" grocery stores are planned for the Largo area.

A Russian retailer plans to develop two new grocery stores in the Largo area, according to Teresa Brydon, economic development manager for the City of Largo.

The two Okey-Dokey grocery stores are among 30 planned for the Tampa and Orlando areas over the next year, according to the Tampa Bay Business Journal.

One Okey-Dokey is proposed for an existing building at the southwest corner of Ulmerton Road and 66th Street North. The applicant is getting ready for the building permit process, Brydon said.

A second grocery store is proposed for a shopping plaza near the corner of Belcher and Ulmerton, where Finley's Irish Pub & Eatery and House of Bagels are located. That location is in unincorporated Largo, so building permits do not go through the City of Largo, Brydon said.

The Journal reports the proposed Okey-Dokey stores will carry "everyday food and beverages." The "value-focused" pricing is similar to ALDI. Largo has an ALDI on North Missouri Avenue.

The proposed stores will most likely be smaller than the average ALDI. The average Okey-Dokey store size ranges from 4,200 square feet to 7,500 square feet. For comparison, ALDI stores are about 16,500 square feet, the Journal reports.
