New Pizzeria Serves a Selection of Crusts, Sauces, and Toppings

Nate Dogg's Pizzeria opened in November in the Winn Dixie Plaza near the intersection of Walsingham Road and Seminole Boulevard in Largo.

Growing up in Nebraska, Nate Kleeb, 27, always wanted a pizzeria.

"Even as a kid every time we went to a pizza place, I would think this would be really cool if I had one of these," Kleeb said.

Kleeb's mom lived in Treasure Island, and he was ready for a change and tired of shoveling snow in Nebraska. Then his father Russ, who had managed Village Inn restaurants for years, retired. So Kleeb decided it was a great time to pursue his dream.

Kleeb moved to Seminole and opened Nate Dogg's Pizzeria in November with his dad. The pizzeria is in the former location of Big Mike's Pizza Oven in the Winn Dixie Plaza near the intersection of Walsingham Road and Seminole Boulevard.

The pizzeria's name, Nate Dogg, was Kleeb's nickname when he played football in high school.

Growing up, when Kleeb had pizza with friends, he found people liked different types of crust and toppings, and often pizzerias offered a limited selection. So Nate Dogg's offers its customers many choices.

Nate Dogg's serves four types of pizza crust. Customers can choose extra thin (very crispy), New York-style (about half-inch crust), Chicago (thick crust with marinara sauce on top) and Sicilian (really thick pizza in a square shape). Plus, the stuffed pies have crust on the top and bottom.

The choices do not end with the crust. Customers can choose from special red sauce, olive oil, BBQ and Alfredo sauces. There are also more than 30 topping choices such as pepperoni, Italian sausage, fried chicken, artichokes, spinach, cream cheese, banana peppers and more.

Nate Dogg's head chef, Josh Cook, grew up in New York, where his parents owned pizzerias. Cook has been preparing pizza for around 30 years and makes his family's recipes, Kleeb said.

Nate Dogg's has more than pizza. Patrons can choose salads, appetizers, subs, wings and burgers. The pizzeria has comfortable booth seating with televisions. Plus, the eatery serves wine and beer.
