Residents Mourn Fallen Officers

The death of two of St. Petersburg officers impacted the Tampa Bay area. Here's what Largo resident had to say about the shooting.

Largo Residents React to Monday’s loss of St. Petersburg police officers Thomas Baitinger and Jeffrey Yaslowitz. Here’s what they had to say.

Everett Newton: “I have trouble talking about it and not filling up with tears.  You read in the paper, these men lost families for no good reason I could see.  It just shows there’s whack jobs everywhere.”

Kimberly Dove: “I heard about it live on Bubba in the morning.  It honestly scared me initially.  You know, how often does that happen here?  Now I just feel sad and disappointed.  That someone would even think to do that is just terrible.”

Allen Alcover: “I don’t know what the world’s coming to, man.  That guys like that can be repeat offenders and get a hold of guns is just messed up.  Those guys should be an eye for an eye, locked away forever as far as I’m concerned.”

Laurie Beck: “It’s just sad; really, really sad.  You know, why didn’t the wife ever let anyone know he had a gun and was feeling this way?  It’s terrible they even let someone out like that in the first place.  Just really sad.  But, what are you gonna do, you know?”

Seth Tishler: “I saw it on Bay News 9 in my class.  It honestly sent a shock through me at first.  I just didn’t understand why they bulldozed the house so fast.  I don’t think the forensics team really got enough evidence.  Now his wife, who didn’t do anything, is left without a home.”
